El Nino in Luna

April 25, 2016 by Marvin Malaran Leave a Comment

corn damage by el nino

Our Corn field evidence of El Nino

El Nino brought a devastating effect in the Philippines and Luna had no excuse.

Scarcity of water supply, plants and crops are dying, people suffering all over the place praying for rain. There no fiercer than the revenge of mother earth. That’s the reality that nobody can change generally due to the fact that Global Warming have taken its toll to the whole world. And specifically we are suffereing the Fierce of El Nino that all the people laslty appreaciate the importance of water. To reuse and reduce is the most important thing to do in this kind of calamity.

These are my brother’s cabbage damage by El Nino it didn’t survive as well

Here in Luna, the effects of El  Nino is evident. Scarcity of vegetables and fruits are prominent  due to the reason of lack water supply to the farms causing the plants to withered and wont survive. Sympathy for the farmers because they suffered the most, their crops gone in a failure state with a huge loss of capital and investment. These farmers and families livelihood depends mainly on the crops and plants they grow on their farm dedicating their everyday life to survive and the future of having a greener income depends on whether this crops will give them profit or a fail. When the scorching temperature sets in. Farmers effortly double their time trying to save dying plants by watering by hand. But unfortunatelty its never enough to make crops healthy and productive ending in failure and loss of profits.

Dry Period

Physical characteristic are also evident during these calamities, soils are cracked, there’s drought all over the rivers and springs. Not only humans that are suffering also the animals that are mainly used for farming in the area. These incidents are just some byproducts of Global Warming i suppose. I still remember when i was a kid it never went warm here in Luna, we even always wear our jumpers and jackets even in the mid afternoon when the sun is on the hottest, as many people say in Luna you will never need an electric fan nor an air conditioning, but as the time goes by the climate is changing and its not for the better but i guess its for the worse. Let us save Mother Earth.

Our Luna Trip this year

June 21, 2015 by Bill Fiskilis 2 Comments

Our Trip to Luna

Luna

We visited our second home this year Luna Cagayan de Oro Mindanao. Stayed for 4 weeks with the wife’s family. It was a great trip once again looking forward to it in a couple of years again.

Had planned on doing the rounds but just didn’t eventuate. I was pretty much a hermit but loved every second of living working and relaxing up in the mountain ranges. We did go down into Cagayan de Oro a few times by private car to buy things. Shopping and building materials, after spending a few hours in CDO.

I just couldn’t wait to get out just insanely HOT and miserable. You could notice the difference driving to Luna and the Temperatures would drop a degree every kilometer.

JEJORS Water System Luna

September 4, 2014 by Ma. Theresa Leave a Comment

JEJORS Water System luna

JEJORS Water System

Looking back many years ago, people of Luna suffers from a lack of safe water for drinking and for daily use that consumes water like washing the clothes, personal hygiene, farm use, for cooking and for drinking. Remembering those days when we have to walk 500 meters with a pushing cart with empty gallons of container traveling on a very sloppy and high hills just to get and fetch water every day. It was a tough life, especially during summer where the spring runs dry and we have to wait in line to fill up one gallon of water in one hour. The people of Luna wanted to change, so people changed their government. Since the takeover of Mayor Redentor Salvaleon, the water system has started.

Projects

Then comes the JEJORS water system which provides water supply to the whole municipality of Claveria. JEJORS water system is one of the projects of the municipal mayor in Claveria Misamis Oriental , Honorable Mayor Redentor Salvaleon. This is located at Luna, Claveria, Misamis Oriental. This is the main source of water of the people in Claveria. It contributes a very big help to Claveriahanons. This was built in order for the Claveriahanons to have an easy life in terms of doing an activities that needs water just like washing clothes, taking a bath as well as in farming. Water in JEJORS water system is clean so it can be used for drinking.
Human body needs water. Without water, people cannot survive. Because of JEJORS water system, Claveriahanons will survive and have a healthy life. The water are based and mainly from Mat-I rivers and connecting rivers alongside, then its being processed and purified for drinking in Luna where the main reservoir is located. As of today, people not only in Luna but to all people of Claveria have benefited the new water system. No one can complain anymore of scarcity of water, this time abundance is what its like.

Fiesta Event: Disco and Sabong June 19, 2014

June 19, 2014 by Mitch 2 Comments

Luna Fiesta

One of the winners in Sabong Donna Mayuman-Itum, Joseph Itum and Jerome Itum. Congratulations to all the winners!

Yesterdays event was sabong, whats your bet?, “biya”or ‘”inilog”. Whoever won, congratulations! During Fiesta in Luna, sabong is always one of the entertainment for people. Donna and Joseph are on of the lucky winners in this game. Good on you folks, you got some cah and free dinner. Sabong was the entertainment at daytime, of course there are some fun at night too.

Who among you have fun last night during the disco? In line with the fiesta celebration comes the pre entertainments on desperas. Last nights disco was sponsored by our barangay and with the MOR hosted by the most popular dj’s in radio “totoy bugoy and Lala Morena. It was really super fun! It was held at “Kampo” where everyone knows where it is if you are from Barangay Luna. Doesn’t matter the coldness of the temperature, once you get grooving you will sweat it out. The best time get your body moving ang dancing along with fellow Lunaens enjoying the Disco. Many adults and youngters came from different neighbouring barangays too.

It all went well, peaceful and no dramas at all. The drunkards are well behave and didn’t started trouble at all. It is also good to see the visibility of our barangay officials participating in this kind of events as well as the barangay tanods who keeps peace and order during the said event. Well done!

Fiesta is Coming

June 10, 2014 by Mitch Leave a Comment

Fiesta is ComingBarangay Luna’s fiesta is fast approaching. This year the fiesta date falls on June 20-21, 2014.  Many years ago when I was a kid the fiesta was held every 1st of October. But now it was changed to every month of June. Fiesta celebration is the time of thanksgiving to barangay patron, in Luna it was the Immaculate Concepcion. This is the time of feast where every household has preparations of any varieties of food to be serve to all the visitor. Visitors are not choosen but instead, the house is open to everyone wether they are from different places, whoever they are even if you don’t know them or not. In short it can also be called as “eat all you can”. If you want to explore every ones houses food preparations, then you should have your tummy ready, because at the end of the day you be stuffed.

In terms of entertainment and events held during fiesta. Disco is always on the list. It usually falls on every Friday and Sunday night after the mass. The disco is being held at “kampo” as we call it at Zone 5. In zone 5 it is where the basketball court is located and there’s plenty of room for dancing people so its the best place for Disco.

Upcoming Events:

  •  sabong( cockfighting)
  • Basketball League
  • Disco

During Fiesta in Luna, this is the best time to have fun and mingle with the youngsters, wherein teenagers goes home from the city to attend the fiesta celebration of their hometown. The pretty ladies and handsome boys comes home and other families comes home and makes barangay Luna alive and kicking, escape from all days work in the farm.

Fiesta here is an special occasion, people get stuffed and full, some get drunk, some gets in trouble with other drunkards but the most important thing is they have enjoyed themselves before another week goes back to normal again.

Happy Fiesta Barangay Luna!
